Lyrics All I Can Take
The night was sultry and the moon was bright
She was all that I could see
In my fingers and then gone like sand
With a stolen part of me
You can tell her
She’s the one
But she’ll just say that she don’t know
But she’ll say
Drive me down this road just one more time
But keep your foot close to the brake
Pray to God you bring my heart back to me
Pray to God it doesn’t break
Cause it’s all I can give and its all I can take
She’s not easy but she’s not hard
She’s just been here before
She’s not ready but she’s not scared
She just wants a little more
You can tell her
She’s the one
But she’ll just say that she don’t know
But she’ll say
Drive me down this road just one more time
Feel the wind across my face
Pray to God you bring my heart back to me
Pray to God it doesn’t break
Cause it’s all I can give and its all I can take
I used to have a motorcycle and this girl loved to ride on the back of it. I think it was the only reason I had a chance with her. Wrote this after a New Mexico barn dance in Taos. It has the sweet groove of Michael Hearne’s band South by Southwest and sometimes I can smell the sagebrush when I play it. |
