Heavy Load

Billy drives them road trains
All across this land
He’s got 13 tons of steel and diesel
Underneath his hands
And he can’t recall the last time
He lay down in a bed
With a woman who loved him
He didn’t pay instead

He’s got a heavy load

Well a man has got a job to do
And Billy aint afraid
He takes all them loads that’s oversize
And he’ll fly em down that interstate
He’ll pull em all night long
Just to make to the drop
Then he’ll deadhead back to Texas
Cause he aint gonna stop

He’s got a heavy load
And he’s trying to get home
He’s got a heavy load
And he pulls it all alone
Someday they’re gonna lay him down
When he runs out of road
And I hope Jesus has a diesel truck
To carry him home

The load that Billy carries
You can’t pull with no machine
Aint a day that goes by he don’t remember
All those broken dreams
Cause the cancer took his mama
Then it took his wife
Then his only brother
He lost his only life

He’s got a heavy load
And he’s trying to get home
He’s got a heavy load
And he pulls it all alone
Someday they’re gonna lay him down
When he runs out of road
And I hope God has got a diesel truck
To carry him home

Billy’l tell you stories
If you give him half a chance
And I’ve heard ‘em all a thousand times
But I just let him rant
Cause he was my daddy’s brother
Before my daddy left this plane
And you know blood it aint like water
It’s what makes us the same

We got a heavy load
And we’re trying to get home
We got a heavy load
And he don’t pull it all alone
Someday I’m gonna lay him down
When he runs out of road
And I hope Jesus has a diesel truck
To carry him home

This one is about my uncle Bill and our family. He drives an 18 wheeler. That road gets mighty lonely. Sometimes it’s good to remember that blood is thicker than water.
